This week we have a sketch challenge:
This is, like, the second sketch we have had with these multiple layers, one of which is off kilter. Makes my lil' ole OCD heart just shrivel up in my body! But since two of the layers are straight, it's not so bad. I decided to play with a couple of MFT sets I had gotten from two different releases and not touched yet. I bought both of them because of the Emilys. My daughter Emily and her BFF Emily both love sloths, and my Emily is also nuts about hedgehogs. I decided that these two animals should be on a card together. Because of the way I had to place them on the card, I decided to flip the sketch. Lookie:
STINKIN' CUTE! Since both the Emilys love the color teal, I chose Tropical Teal for my card base.
I used the MISTI to help me position these critters exactly right, stamped with MFT's Black Licorice hybrid ink, and colored them with Copic markers. And because I often do things bass-ackwards, I had to create masks from masking paper for these two after I had colored them so I could stencil my clouds using the long-gone Cloud, Moon, and Stars stencil from SU! I was going to die cut grass to put over the bottom of the image, but it just covered up too much of the hedgehog's toes, and so I used the die cut edge I had made to stencil grass on instead. As it so happened, I ended up putting the greeting over most of the grass anyway because it was the only place it looked right, so all that agonizing over the grass was for NOTHING!
I used the new Stitched Sentiment Strips dies from MFT for the greeting. I also want to direct your attention to the crimped white piece that is the wonky layer. Yes, I still have my paper crimper and sometimes it's just the PERFECT thing to add to a card, including this one! I also want you to notice the grass washi tape. I got this at Office Depot! They have a lot of the Scotch Expressions Washi tape there, and since I was there picking up mundane things like hanging folder clear tabs I felt I had to buy a few rolls just for fun. I could not find this tape at any of my affiliates, but I link to OD below. If you've got one in your area, you can just pick it up there. I'm not affiliated with them, just fond of washi tape!
I used some Doodlebug Cloud Nine washi tape above the focal piece, which I thought was very clever! Clouds above, grass below! Yay me! A little baker's twine bow is attached with a tiny paperclip that I picked up at a stamp show from Stamp on It, but they don't carry them anymore. I found an equivalent in Tim Holtz's mini paper clips and linked below.
A couple of Doodlebug Sprinkles in Beetle Black finish the card.
So, so, so CUTE!
Don't forget about the Copic Sale!
Below is my list of products that I used, and I have used compensated affiliate links where they were available, as I now participate in affiliate programs for Simon Says Stamp, Amazon, Ellen Hutson LLC, Scrapbook.com, Gina K, Sissix, and Blick Art Supplies. Buying through these links costs you nothing extra and helps support my blog and my artistic endeavors, and I thank you.
