I decided to play the Simon Says Stamp Flickr challenge and use the October kit that I had gotten and not been able to touch because of my family and their incessant demands to be driven hither and thither. The oldest is relearning to drive now, though, and I'm not sure what's more harrowing. Once she gets a car and can drive herself, I'm not sure it will be any less harrowing.
At any rate, the kit is already sold out, but the separate components are still obtainable! I love the squirrels in this set and decided to make them the stars of my card. The challenge is a sketch challenge, and it was fun! This is the sketch:
And this is what I did with it! Lookie:
STINKIN' CUTE! I love the Lawn Fawn Perfect Plaid paper that came with the kit so I chose one of the patterns I hadn't used yet. I decided to do something different by stamping the images then adding shading and highlights with Prismacolor pencils.
The squirrels, for instance, were stamped in Rich Cocoa Memento ink then I added the shading and highlights with three different colors of Prismacolors. There are no matching dies, and I didn't feel like firing up the Silhouette for two small images, so I fussy cut them out and popped them over the top of the die cut circle that was stamped with the other images/words. I loved the acorns that came with the kit, and I added one on the right side with a bow of baker's twine.
I wanted to stick to Simon dies, and I was having a hard time coming up with something to use for the long piece under the focal mat. I could have just cut a strip of paper, but I wanted something different. I finally settled on using this small banner from the Stitched Die Bundle and just layering up multiples of them. I also added loops of baker's twine on the left side of the focal piece just to break up the plaid a bit.
I added a couple of enamel dots to fill out the rest of the sketch.
So cute! I love it!
