I haz a sad.
SU! has announced that because of continuing quality issues, they are withdrawing the entire Blendabilities line and will not be carrying them from now on. While the larger part of the markers were fine, the fail rate (meaning markers that would dry out too rapidly) was larger than was acceptable. There was a lot of research trying to figure out why, and the flaw in the manufacturing process was discovered, but it could not be remedied satisfactorily. They may possibly come out with a different line of markers at some point or carry an outside line, but at this point in time, no alcohol markers in our colors. Boo.
Personally, I got used to coloring with these markers, and it's really hard to go back to coloring with regular markers. Yes, I can still use the ones I have, but then, I hate to show projects colored with markers that people can no longer buy. I could switch to Copic markers or another brand of alcohol markers (I do have them) or just go to coloring with Prismacolors and Gamsol (one of my favorite methods), but I don't know yet exactly what I will do about coloring.
Having just water-based markers with no other coloring medium besides blender pens and Aquapainters and ink pads...it's a bit limiting. I can do that and have done it, but I got spoiled by using the Blendabilities. Plus, we no longer have the watercolor crayons (didn't really like them much) or the pastels or watercolor pencils (probably my favorite of the three). I still have ALL of these and don't use them, so I am thinking I might just give my pens to my daughters and be done with them. I can't sell them right now so don't even ask. Watercolor crayons, pastels, or watercolor pencils? Make me an offer! (I still have the large original watercolor crayon tin the original set came in with all the crayons plus later additions).
HOWEVER, I do have a project I have not shown you yet that were colored with these, so I am going to use this as my hail and farewell to Blendabilities. I made this the day before my last workshop so as to have a sample with this set. Lookie:
GOJUS! (YILM!) (sob!) Yes, I did paper tole with this. More views:
I love the colors of the washi tape in this assortment (Sweet Sadie) so that's what I used for colors.
I'd love to say that you can buy everything I used to make this card, but you can't. Darn it! Most of it is still available though, by clicking any picture (except the ones for Blendabilities) to go to my webstore. The sun will come up tomorrow, you can bet your bottom dollar. There just won't be any Blendabilities for sale. Sigh....
Or you can buy this card on Etsy!
